Global food corporation Unilever recently invested $94 million in The Hive—a food innovation center in the Netherlands. At the Hive, Unilever plans to work with academic researchers, startups, and other partners to develop new products, including plant-based meat and sustainable food packaging, that CEO Alan Jope hopes will drastically transform the global food system.
全球食品公司“联合利华”最近投资9400万美元在荷兰建设食品创新中心“The Hive”(“蜂巢”)。联合利华计划在该创新中心与学术研究人员、初创公司及其他合作伙伴进行合作,研发包括植物肉和可持续食品包装在内的各种新产品;首席执行官艾伦·乔普希望通过研发这些新产品,能够彻底改革全球食品体系。
“We need a fundamental transformation of the food system if we are to feed more than nine billion people sustainably and nutritiously,” Jope said. “Malnutrition, obesity, climate change and food waste are issues that can only be addressed if we work in partnership to accelerate technology and innovation. Having a global research and development center in Wageningen will enable us to do exactly this.”

In recent years, Unilever has added a growing number of plant-based products to its portfolio, including vegan ice cream flavors in its Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Talenti, and Magnum brands. In 2018, Unilever acquired Holland-based company De Vegetarische Slager (“The Vegetarian Butcher”) and will use some portion of its newest investment to grow the vegan meat brand.
近些年来,联合利华的产品组合不断加入越来越多的植物性产品,譬如其Ben & Jerry’s、Breyers、Talenti和Magnum品牌都增添了不同的纯素冰淇淋口味(产品)。2018年,联合利华收购了总部位于荷兰的植物肉公司“De Vegetarische Slager”(“素肉店”);联合利华最新一部分投资将用于发展这个纯素肉类品牌。
